Making sure our kittens are healthy is our No. 1 priority.

Medical checks

Our breeders take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and well-being of the cats they breed. This starts with ensuring the parents are in tip-top condition and of pure pedigree.

When it comes to your kitten, you can have complete confidence that it has been bred according to the highest international breeding standards. Our breeders undertake thorough medical checks on their breeding parents, including pedigree analysis, Pro-BNP blood testing, and gene testing for diseases commonly inherited within the specific breed. We conduct tests for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (pd-PRA), Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS). Additionally, we ensure that all our breeders’ cats are tested negative for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

While a negative genetic test result for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) indicates the absence of a specific mutation at the time of testing, it is important to note that the condition can potentially develop later due to other mutations. To provide an extra layer of precaution, our breeders conduct annual echocardiograms to monitor the heart health of their breeding cats throughout their reproductive years.

In addition to the above tests, our partnered breeders also prioritise other essential health care for their cats. These include:

  • Regular Veterinary Examinations:

Breeding cats receive routine veterinary examinations to monitor their overall health, identify any potential issues, and ensure they are up-to-date on vaccinations and parasite control.

  • Optimal Nutrition:

Our partnered breeders provide their breeding cats with a balanced and nutritious diet to support their overall health, reproductive fitness, and the growth of healthy kittens.

  • Proper Socialisation:

Breeding cats are raised in a loving and enriched environment, ensuring they receive proper socialisation and mental stimulation, which contributes to their overall well-being.

  • Controlled Breeding Program:

They follow a carefully planned breeding program that takes into account the health, temperament, and genetic diversity of their cats and aims to avoid inbreeding and promote the production of healthy offspring.

  • Responsible Breeding Age:

Our breeders are committed to breeding responsibly, which includes ensuring that their cats are not bred too early or too late in their lives. They prioritise their breeding cats' well-being and long-term health by allowing them to reach an appropriate age and maturity level before including them in the breeding program.

Inoculations

We ensure that our kittens receive their first 2 vaccinations from the breeders in their birth country, as this is a requirement for importing them into Singapore. By the time we have the kittens, they are already more than 3 months old. The third and final vaccination will be administered in Singapore by us in partnership with our vet when the kitten is at least 16 weeks old, to ensure that maternal antibodies (MDA) do not interfere with the vaccine's effectiveness. Starting from the time the kittens are in our care, we will begin a monthly internal deworming course with fenbendazole syrup and provide external deworming/heartworm prevention products such as Revolution or Advocate. Additionally, we provide a health guarantee against FIP, congenital, and genetic issues until the kitten reaches 1 year of age.

Living conditions

Our cats are kept in small, carefully selected groups to minimise the risk of infections and promote a harmonious social dynamic. Each group of cats has their own designated area with individual food and drinking bowls, as well as litter boxes. This setup helps prevent the spread of any potential infections and allows us to closely monitor their eating, drinking, and toileting habits. We believe that maintaining a clean and organised environment is essential for the health and happiness of our cats.

To ensure optimal cleanliness, we employ various techniques, including the use of a commercial-grade steam vacuum cleaner. The high heat generated by the steam vacuum cleaner helps eliminate viruses, bacteria and fungal spores, providing an additional layer of sanitisation to our cats' living spaces. This method effectively removes dust, allergens, and microorganisms, creating a healthier environment for our cats.

In addition to regular cleaning routines, we also follow a strict schedule for disinfection. Our cleaning protocols involve the use of veterinary-grade, anti-viral disinfectants (F10) to thoroughly sanitise all surfaces, ensuring the elimination of potential pathogens.

By maintaining these high cleanliness standards, we create a healthy and safe environment for our cats to thrive. We believe that a stress-free and clean living space contributes to their overall well-being and promotes their natural behaviours and social interactions.

A balanced, natural diet is non-negotiable

Prey Model Raw Diet:

We understand the importance of maintaining a healthy digestive system for your kitty's overall well-being and a robust immune system. Up to 80% of immune cells in cats are located in the digestive system, highlighting the significance of a balanced diet.

We are passionate about providing our cats with a natural and nutritious diet, and we follow the Prey Model Raw (PMR) diet to support their health. Our kittens are fed a fresh raw diet 2 to 3 times a day, ensuring they receive the optimal nutrition their carnivorous nature requires. In addition to the raw diet, we also include Royal Canin kibbles as one of the meals for our kittens to graze on. This is because kibbles are a well-balanced diet that helps us meet the micronutrient requirements essential for our kittens to thrive.

From my observations, not every cat thrives on a raw diet. There are instances where a kitten may not accept raw food, and their body does not respond well to it. In such cases, they may fare better on a diet primarily consisting of kibble, rather than a raw diet that could lead to soft stools, diarrhoea, or occasional vomiting. Kittens that struggle with raw diets often appear slightly underweight, but once transitioned to a kibble-based diet, their weight tends to increase to a healthy range. It's important to understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to feeding your kitten; the best diet is one that allows them to thrive. Based on my experience, kittens whose parents are on a raw diet and who start their solid food journey with raw typically do well on it. However, issues often arise when kittens are raised on kibble (likely with parents who have also been on kibble their entire lives). Their digestive systems may lack the necessary beneficial bacteria to properly digest raw food. In such scenarios, a long-term regimen of probiotics may be required to adequately prepare their stomachs for raw feeding.

The PMR diet focuses on feeding cats raw, fresh foods devoid of the plant ingredients often found in processed cat foods. It comprises a carefully balanced combination of 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs. Our longstanding relationship with trusted fresh meat wholesale suppliers guarantees that we receive weekly deliveries of refrigerated new meat orders.

To further enhance the nutritional profile of the diet, we incorporate supplements. Our premix compound supplement covers any nutritional gaps and is sourced directly from the USA and air shipped to us. This ensures we provide our kittens with the highest quality supplements to support their overall health.

Additionally, we add Alaskan salmon fish oil for essential EPA/DHA omega-3 fatty acids and Psyllium Husk for valuable fibre. These additional components contribute to the well-rounded and complete nutrition our kittens receive.

When you take your kitty home, we strongly urge you to continue with the diet they have become accustomed to during their time with us. By doing so, you are supporting their digestive health and maintaining a consistent and balanced nutritional approach that promotes their overall well-being.
